Some people may mistake it for being humble, some may even say reserved, but when it comes to speaking about myself, I don’t have a lot to say. I’m just your average young man working hard to make the ones who believed in me the most as proud as possible.
I was fortunate enough to have been raised by two very strong, loving, and dedicated women. My grandmother, Thelma Rhodes Williams not only gave me unconditional love, but she was the one that laid the foundation for my love of baking. Thelma, or Granny, as she was more commonly known would have me help her bake cakes when I was six years old and it was something that has stuck with me to this day. Every time I bake something, it takes me back to a easier time and helps me remind me of the laughs and love I was given and shared, something that I attempt to put into every cake, pie, and cookie. Every dessert I create may be made with my hands but it comes from Granny’s love.
My mother, Tommie Brown, was one of the nostalgic diligent people I have ever met. Never giving up and smiling through whatever, her teachings helped me become the man I am today.
When my mother passed, I decided to reignite my passion for baking as way to grieve and bring a smile to my face, but more importantly others. I learned that we are all dealing with loss and need a reason to smile. When I create, it’s not with the intention of baking just to bake, it’s to bring a smile to a face. I want those who are kind enough to buy to remember a sense of happiness with every bite.
“DONE WITH NOTHING BUT LOVE…JUST LIKE GRANNY.”
